Hello, I'm new to this board, and I'd like to ask for some help. I'm a girl, 5'6, and about 175 pounds. My friends tell me I'm not fat, but I know they're lying to me. I've also got this very obvious pot belly. Now, it's not like I've done that much to try to stop it, (I find myself snacking on junk food too often), but I've made up my mind that I want to change, so any helpful ideas would be great. I don't live near a gym so rule that out.

Running often can help, try doing some pushups or situps at home, too.

Don't starve yourself, eat normally, just lay off the junk food. Don't drink soda, eat chips, chocolate or anything like that. Be carefull with calories, too.

Maybe you can try Atkins or something, I dunno.

Good luck.

Hi Jen. There's lots you can do, but I wouldn't suggest trying to do it all at once. First thing I would suggest is getting into a regular routine of exercise. 15-20 minutes of aerobic exercise (jogging, walking, whatever you can do) to start. Work your way towards 30 mins, then keep adding time until you get to an hour.

Next, change your eating habits. Dieting doesn't solve anything, if you temporarily change your eating habits, all you do is destroy your metabolism, making it harder to keep the weight off once you switch back to your old way of eating. Eat a balanced diet, too much of any nutrient (ahem...Adkins) is'nt good in the long run. If possible, try to eat smaller portions 5-6 times a day, rather than the standard 3 times.

There's much more to it, but that's where I'd start. To break it down most simply: If calories you eat are less than calories you burn during the day, you will lose weight.

Hey Jen!
What you can do is to go on a diet, now don't starve yourself or anything, just stay away from the junky greasy foods and the soda and sweet stuff. lol,I know it's hard at first, but once you keep doing that you get used to that eating habit.
Also, do some excersise, you don't have to do a whole bootcamp session, just run or jog,or even walk if you wan to for a half hour or even an hour if it's nice out,and at home you can do a few situps and pushups.

Wish your luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im 190 pounds and me and my friend are trying *really* hard to lose weight along with some other goals. Im trying to lose 10 pounds a month.I am wondering if this is healthy to lose this much in a month, because people have told me its too much but i wanna get into a bikini by july. We have been doing excercicing like leglifts jumping jacks and a little running. My friend even has a Taebo video were trying. The hard part is not eating junk food. Im really trying tho. If u have any tips Id appreciate them soo much. Thnx...*Self-Conscious*

bipiercedfemale,

set up a rewards/punishment system for the junk food. and be accountable. if only you is keeping tabs on whether or not you're eating junk food, you're bound to fail. if you friend (or friends) are keeping tabs on you...it's much easier to remember to put the candy bar back.

and 10lbs a month might be a bit of a push. the first few months it's possible, but after a few months have passed it will be difficult to keep up with that rate of weight loss. don't put so much emphasis on reaching a certain "pounds lost". do the best you can, and learn that fitness is a year round activity...not a "5 months before bikini season" thing.

Hey! I went on my first ever "diet" last month. I have already lost 20 pounds, but not to get too excited half of it was water weight. For the person who wanted to know if 10 pounds was too much, specialists say that the "healthy" weight to lose is 2 pounds a week. Which is 8 pounds a month, so you aren't far off. I personally would not recommend the Atkins, unless you have a lot of money. Many supplements are needed to keep your health good. You get little to no fiber, which made me extremely sick and in the hospital. I had nothing to clean out my system, and was lacking a lot of the nutrients I needed. I am still having close to the same results by limiting myself to 1200 calories a day, and 30 minutes of exercise. A little goes a long way!!!!! Stick in there.

Hey thanks everybody for the help. A lot of you said I should try exercise, but I'm relly not that good at it. I'm not in shape at all, in fact last time I did any serious running was in my grade 9 gym class. I get winded easily. So other that that and the healthier eating, are there any other known methods of weight loss that are healthy?

you don't have to be good at it. gotta start somewhere. the more you do, the better things will get, and consequently, the more you'll be able to do.

thats the same with me I have always been made fun of in any kind of swim suit but this summer i really really want to get into a two peice and look somewhat decent in it because this is one of my first summers where i am actually not working with kids and i can sit back and relax and enjoy life at out beach house :) so its kinda important to lose the overload. but tonight for the first time i stuck up for myself and earned myself a whooping $100 instead of snacks this summer
so good luck to you too, you can pm if you want to talk. keep each other up to date,

What sucks about this diet thing is that often my favorite foods were the foods that had the most calories and fat. For instance, I can no longer have my beloved double big mac :)

Thats my weakness too! Lolz!

Also i agree wiv every1 who says starvin urself is not the way. I did that 4 about 6 months 2 a yr - all i had was half a plate of dinner, hardly ne water n lyk 3 small satsumas during the day... this aint the way! I lost weight but now i suffer a stomach condition where i must take 9-15 doses of different medications a day! Its not worth it honestly... Now im following a healthy calorie counting diet n stepping up the amount of exercise i do bit by bit each week... :britty: Also reward ur self for every 7 pounds u lose... lets say a manicure or a facial or a pampering sesh in ur bath or a new top/outfit... honestly it wil realy spur u on. Oh yeh n dnt weigh urself every day... i used 2 do it, it realy depressd me coz i wanted real quick results... weigh urself every 1-2 weeks, the best day is on a friday mornin b4 breakfast wiv no clothes on (obviously) k xxxx hope i helped :)
