It's been a little more than seven months since the day I first heard the beginings of rumours that there would be a remake to the classic film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and I can barely contain my excitement. The film is not only one of my favorite films of all time (the songs absolutely irked my mother's last nerves) and now to know that in July my wait will have ended is fabulous! And on top of this, Mr. Johnny Depp, who has starred in such films as What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands, and the recent Pirates of the Caribbean trilogies (check the Disney site for drool-worthy photos) is going to play Willy Wonka. Now, I am a die-hard Depp fan (Did you see the Inside the Actor's Studio special??!?!) but I do have my fears of what this could mean for fans of the original film. We've seen the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Carrie, Cat in the Hat...we know the pain of watching a classic go wrong. But perhaps in the hands of a decent actor, we might not go horribly wrong. Of course, a good remake would be nothing if in the hands of a less-than-qualified director, and so knowing that the somewhat-dark and zany Tim Burton is going to produce the film is indeed something to make me wonder about the complete package of the film. And from what I've seen from the trailor ("Chewing gum is very gross, chewing gum I hate the most."), I can tell it's going to be a big seller this summer.

So, Johnny Depp fans unite! What's your take on it? On...the...hottie that is Depp? lol.

Viva Not-too-long.

I will see it, only because it's Johnny Depp, though I don't really think he needs to be in this movie

First off let me say this, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas! Best Depp film ever made! As for this movie can't they get Jim Carey to do this? He likes to play weird old men. Johnny Depp should keep some of his mature roles. Just my take, great actor though! He was good in his cameo of the movie Platoon.

Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors because he stretches himslef constantly and is always willing to take on a difficult role and make it smashing.

That said, I've seen previews for Willy Wonka and I thought he was a woman at first.

There's no way he can do a better job than Gene Wilder did in the original one.

I hear that this one is suppose to stay with the darker tone of the book. I can't wait to see it.

I didn't say he couldn't do it, I said he wouldn't do as good of a job at it.

well ya never know it could screw up. I mean Johnny is a good actor I'm just tired of seing good movies with highly popular actors. Some of the best movies come from the actors/actresses that are like underrated and mainly are the side character. (EX: Dark City) BUt yeah I hope it turns out good.

I never liked the original; they went away from the book far too much. Roald Dahl hated it. There were some really crappy songs in it too. What the fuck is "Cheer up Charlie" all about eh? I'm interested in seeing Burton's interpretation.

Maybe I should read the book and give this movie a chance...

He was good in his cameo of the movie Platoon.

There's a difference between a cameo and a small role.

I always thought his first role was great - Glen in a Nightmare On Elm Street.

(And, we're also all missing the obvious, CHRISTOPHER LEE is in this film. Now I'm not much for some of his recent works, but the Hammer Horror classics... ah, Mr Lee... The Devil Rides Out)

Why did you say ughh Jamie Spears ? Shes not in the movie.

I loved original, even with cheesy songs and they changed book. I hope this one is more like book.

Well.

To show how specific they needed to be for acting roles, they had also really really wanted Marilyn Manson to play Wonka, soooo......

Yep.

It's all for shock value.

They need not know how to act.
