i've recently installed a new AMD Athlon XP 3000+ processor, and now anytime i try to reboot normally through windows it will shut down properly, but when it comes time to turn the machine back on, it simply lights up the cd/dvd drives and sits there with blank screen.

i have latest bios and motherboard supports the processor.

think it could be anything other than a wiring mistake?

its a shot in the dark because you didnt say the rest of your machines specs but i think it could be a power supply problem

like i said "a shot in the dark"

doubt its power supply, relatively new 500W.

tried computing.net
they say loose wires, but checked everything.
but it seems to be happening less often so maybe it won't be such a hastle.

i was thinking(but hoping against) bad ram.
i did notice that one of my ram clips weren't completely closed on an empty slot, fixed it, but it hasn't seemed to change anything.
bleh.

Try using the computer with only one dimm for a while. If it continues, try the other one (only) for a while.

Who knows.

RAM sucks like that.
