Hmm. Why it would break? Maybe because it is made by Honda?! Only kidding. I dont know. Probably will have to take it to some auto shop.

ok as the l337 honda master of this web board, lets first discuss why all of you are morons when it comes to VTEC-

its not Vtec, v-tec, vtech, or any other combination of the letters V T E and C other than "VTEC"

this stands for variable valve timing and electronic lift control, im am going to go out on a limb here and assume that none of you have the faintest clue as to what that is and give a very brief description:

VTEC is an actual mechanical difference in certain Honda engines that allows a seperate section of the Camshaft to engage in higher RPM's.

you DO NOT need a VTEC controller to engage it and im pretty it wouldnt just stop working, maybe you just aren't getting the engine speed high enough to engage the VTEC

What model Civic do you have? EX, DX, LX?

Abusiveelusive
08-31-2003, 01:32 AM
Im sure most of us knew all that about "VTEC" already.

heyy man wat kinda engine u got in it? i know me i got a 1.6 vtec and i can feel it kick in mildly but not overly much. ALSO what kinda computer u got in it? my friend got a B16C not too long ago and for some reason the VTEC wasnt doin too much. But then he put a new SiR computer in it and myyyy fckk the thing has pull! lol at around 5k revs it'll push u rite back to ur seat like nothinn sooo check that out. Just lemme know wat kinda engine/computer u got. Another thing could be the plugs n wires? header's n valves ok? OHH btw how do u drive it?? redline or just easy? cuz usually the VTEC doesn't kick in till around 5000 or so, depends on the motor.

I'm not sure how old this thread is but it was on the first page of the automotive section so I clicked it. Anything that has the title ' Vtec ' has to be funny. VTEC is not fast, it doesn't put you back in your seat. Thats a lie.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that your 0-60 time is probably slower than your quarter mile time.

I didn't say you needed it, I just said I liked it. And while VTEC isn't by any means fast, a Civic Si is a lot faster and a lot more fun than a regular Civic.

No i totally agree with you. im gettin a 91-94 civic hatchback LSVTEC. Putting the block or an RL with the head of an RSX type S. Be about 240hp after putting less than 5 grand into a car that i can get for about 3 grand

That is sad. My Thunderbird was over 350hp with a price tag of around $3000 which includes the price of the car itself. I can also garauntee you it looked, drove, and handled better than any 91-94 Civic. Also, it had torque.

Ya but the civic weighs about 10 lbs. its a fricken mouse, i bet it would beat ur heavy ass thunderbird. Out at the legal races out here called "race legal" www.racelegal.com there are a few civic hatchbacks that smoke the american cars. Even the cobras and mach1.

I never managed to make it to the 1320, however Thunderbirds with silimar mods were doing high14's-low13's. Which is fairly impressive for a 3800lb La-Z-Boy with a V8. The bottom line is that my horserpower per dollar ratio would always be better than you could hope for with an 4cyl engine and given equal ammounts of money my car would always be faster. Not to mention more comfortable. With the $5000 dollars invested you brag about I could have easily pulled 12's or 11's.

Also I am not impressed that modded Civics can beat stock Mach1's and Cobras. Why would you spend that much money on a CIVIC to make ti faster. It entirely defeats the point and makes the care worthless on the road.

"V8 Killer" sure, untill someone who actully knows what they are doing comes around. I'll never understand why you Hot Import Nights fanboys will never admit that the 4cylinder engine, while it can be fast, dollar per dollar and pound for pound will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever be able to top V8's when it comes to hp-per-dollar. There really is no replacement for displacement and I don't care how good your engine is, the more displacement it has, the faster you can make it. I don't mind imports but when it comes to tuning I prefer V8's simply becuase they're better.

Also if you don't understand that my siganutre is a rip on tards like you...well...of course you don't.

I cant see why anyone would want to rice up a four potter either.
Im purchasing a 4 pot city car on sunday. Mentioned this on another forum and I was inundated with questions like "what are you gonna do to it" "how fast is it on the strip"
The answer was and is drive it and occasionally clean it. As for the strip??? Sod off its a 4 pot. I wouldnt waste the entrance fee.

Why am I buying it then? Mostly because condition wise its perfect and money wise its virtually free.
Ive got a V8 that I can use if I want a hoon. Couldnt start it up past 10pm here though.

I had a point to this post, but ive lost my way now. I think it was along the lines of dont kid yourself a 4 pot is fast, use them for what they were designed as: Shopping trolleys and run abouts.

sometimes HP per dollar isn't the most important thing. if you're hobby is tuning, then i'm sure you're going to spend a good chunk of money no matter what. But some people just prefer a certain car/brand and certain setups, and certain options that are available in xxx brand and not xxx brand.

It was never impressive to look at. I wasn't interested in chrome or shiny accessories. Also the paint was bad because I never got around to caring about it and it suffered from the top-coat oxidization that lots of 90's Ford did. So picture a '93 Thunderbird with red paint, aluminum 16" wheels, supercoupe seats on the grey interior and a supercharger strapped to the engine.
