Hey I have kind of a lame question, but can you change your desktop icons? I mean I know there are all those theme thingys and what not..but can you make your own or anything like that?!

There is prolly a program to make your own
but I think you can do a search for different icons to download...or themes

I once tried to rename my START button... let's just say it didn't turn out too well.

mmm another question...how do you control what starts upon start up...there are like 23423 things that open when my computer turns on and I can't for the life of me make them stop.

Some programs have in their prefrences an option like "Start when Windows starts" or something like that. You just have to look, and uncheck it. Also, there may be stuff in your startup folder.

Start > Programs > Startup

That should show it.

see I've deleted everything from there and still a thousand things open lol :\


well ok only like 5 but still it annoys the hell out of me...and I've searched through their properties thinking maybe there was a way to make it so it they don't start..nope no such luck!

START > RUN > Type in "msconfig" > Click STARTUP tab > Uncheck EVERYTHING.

PRESS APPLY

PRESS OK

RESTART COMPUTER.

Does MSConfig list windows componets? I use it all the time to disable stuff but there are some names I don't recognize, I'm afraid of disableing something and having my computer crashing again.

You won't screw up anything major, but things may be weird for you. I suggest unchecking everything and going through box by box and seeing what you actually do need to be started when Windows starts.
