I just watched Kill Bill: Volume 1 today with some friends. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it. For some reason, when critics slather on the praise and butt-kissing, especially for Quentin Tarantino (it's his fourth film...la-dee-da), it puts me off of a movie. But today when I had to watch it, I really liked it. It was like watching a western mixed with an anime cartoon. The violence was gross, but it was pretty fake too. I just found it to be very interesting and stylistic. So, a pleasant surprise. Now I want to see Volume 2.
Anyone else have any comments on the film(s)?

But I'm scared to watch it. I loved "Pulp Fiction," which is the only other Tarantino movie I've seen. But so many people have told me that "Kill Bill" is a terrible bloodbath, an insult to all that is good and decent in the world, that I'm afraid that I'll be traumatized for life by it.

Do not listen to those people, it's a visual masterpiece, excellent.
Vol 1 is more eastern, Vol 2 is more the western.
Vol 1 the violence is more cartoon like, Vol 2 it's more realistic and brutal. See fight between The Bride and Elle.
Kill Bill is one of my all time favourites now, see the uncut Japanese version, so good.

I dragged into seeing Vol. 1, and although I couldn't wait for it to end, I don't think it was so bad. A little to bloody and gross in some parts, but that's the kind of movie it is, so what are you gonna do?
Uma Thurman has really ugly feet.

Yeah, you'd think that since there was that whole scene with just her feet in it, they could've gotten her a foot double.

Her feet are bony and big and just.... weird. Hmm. For whatever reason, my favorite part of the movie was the cartoon part when they showed "the birth of O-ren." It was so dramatic, and the animation was just cool. The way they zoomed in on her eyes and everything. Way cool.
Don't worry, prospective moviegoers, it's not actually that bad. I mean, it's violent as hell, but it's more fake violence than anything. It's artistic. And if you've seen a slasher flick at some point, you can handle this.
