I went to see both movies on the weekend.
I was nearly in tears of anger about Troy, and how it was butchered, storyline wise, but Van Helsing was a lot of fun, and really good special effects.
Three good points for both:
Troy- Hot male actors, good costumes, some rather impressive battle scenes
Van Helsing- The actors and acting, storyline and special effects.
Three bad points for both:
Troy- Ruined the legend of Troy, ommited way too many important characters, like Cassandra of Troy, and the Gods were barely mentioned, when they are the entire basis of the story.
Van Helsing- The main girl annoyed me for a while, Dracula died, and I liked him!, and uh, there is no point three.
What do you guys think?

I plan to see Troy merely for the eye candy, I've heard the plot is very undeveloped and an insult to the real story.
I saw Van Helsing last weekend and thought it sucked. I think Hugh Jackman's great, but the script was horrible and made the actors look bad, there were quite a few illogical bits, and there were at least five different plots going at once, none of which made a whole lot of sense. All in all, a very overhyped film for what it was.

I saw Van Helsing, and I was actually disappointed.
Troy, however, I will be seeing soon, no doubt about it.

dont get your hopes up its not a great film its quite stuttered on the effects, its bluddy long (LIKE LORD OF THE RINGS), the swords were crap, and as said above it strayed away from the truth (like most blockbuster films) it was good other wise!

If you thought the story telling in Van Helsing was good...I'm sorry.

I liked it for the escapism, fantasty. I didn't expect it to be the most revealing, in depth film ever made.
I guess I had too high expectations for Troy.

I saw both of those movies, as well and didn't really like Van Helsing, at all.
Troy, on the other hand, I thought was really good. However, the ending annoyed me. I don't want to say why because I don't really want to ruin it for anybody else, but yea. Other than the end, I thought it was good.

Troy- Was really good. If you have read the Illiad or the Oddessy don't expect that it will do it justice. But if you are seeking a movie for entertainment value- Troy is def. THE movie to see. Brad Pitt was HOT in it. Orlando bloom looked good too even though his character was annoying. I personally like the movie even though it was a bit too gory for my taste.
the cgi in van helsing was excellent, but the movie itself was quite terrible. i don't know who played dracula, but he was painful to watch.
but really, i'm glad i saw it just for the effects, which were quite impressive.

If I didn't like long movies; I wouldn't have sat through the Fellowship 5 times in theatres, the Two Towers 7 and the Return of the King 4.
I can handle it.

I went to see troy with my boyfriend bother and his girlfriend none of us thought it did any justice to the real story.

Troy left a great deal to be desired. But i think that is because doing a film that would be loyal to Homer would be very difficult. The battle scenes were fantastic, but the actors were wasted on a bad script.
Van Helsing....Was entertaining, i went in thinking i was going to hate it, and i didn't. Its not a award winner by any stretch of the imagination but it was a fun movie.

the trojan war lasted 3 weeks in the film but really lasted something like 10 years.
I haven't seen VAn Helsing. I heard it sucked from 2 sources and it was good from 1 source, but that source was my parents so i dont think ill be seeing it.

I disagree. 2 fast 2 furious, that's a fun little movie. Pirates of the Carribean, that's a fun little movie. The Italian Job, that's a fun little movie. The Mummy Returns is a fun little movie.
Van Helsing couldn't seem to decide whether it was straigt action/adventure, or comedic, and it failed. I felt no empathy for the characters, and couldn't give a damn at the end.

I'll agree with you on POTC,and the Munmmy returns, ((not the others, mainly because I havent seen them)) but I just enjoyed Van Helsing.
Plus, I like Hugh Jackman, which makes me biased.

I saw Troy on Friday night. That was a fun night.
I actually thought it was really good. It's difficult making a book into a film. Plus, books are ALWAYS better. But anyways.... I don't really think that the parts they missed out faltered the film all that much. You get to see snippets of Brad Pitt's arse anyway, and that's just yummy.
