I'm so excited about the next movie, it's my favorite book out of the 4 I've read. :)
I don't know which house I'd be in though... I need to brush up on my Harry Potter, it's been a while.

^(To the last two posters) I didn't know you were both that shallow. Different strokes for different folks. I'm sure those people don't care if you think they are acting childish. I'm not a big fan of harry potter, but I know I wouldn't. Just because you don't like something doesnt mean it doesnt appeal to other people. Who would you rather be, the one being 'cool' and criticizing other people because they are acting childish or being childish and having fun. Believe it or not, you can enjoy something that wasn't made to entertain you.

I do like Pokemon actually. :nodding:
Have you ever actually *read* Harry Potter? You'd be surprised at how good the books are -- I haven't come across many people that read the books and didn't like them. You should give it a try before you tell us how lame it is.

I'm 16. I'm not talking about Pokemon cards or anything, I'm talking about the actual game. It's a *very* addicting game.
The first 20 pages? Tsk tsk, that hardly counts as reading a Harry Potter book. :p Get past the introduction, which I admit, was rather boring -- it gets a *lot* better from there. I was surprised myself, I didn't really think that I'd like the series, but I wanted to give it a chance since so many people were raving about it. It's not immature at all, I know many adults that read and enjoy the books.

Are you stupid? The original Game Boy games are classic games, and quite addicting.
And are you stupid? They said they like the game, not the movies, not the cards. Cards =!= game boy game.

For one, I never claimed to be *obsessed* with Pokemon, but I do enjoy the game. And by game, I mean the original Gameboy game -- sorry if I was a little unclear about that. I remember I was in about 5th or 6th grade when it came out, and I played it a lot because I was in a phase of my life where I really liked video games. I still enjoy that game to this day, and I'll play it every now and then.
How does my age have anything to do with that?

<33 Well said.
Just because it is a thing that should be enjoyed by younger kids doesn't mean that older people can't enjoy it too. I love Harry Potter (as I've said before) and I really don't care what other people think about it. If people think I'm stupid for liking it, too damn bad. At least I'm the one having fun instead of being a critical piece of shit.

I've never been a fan of Harry Potter. I've read the first book now, which I hadn't before, and to be honest, I still don't get the hype surrounding it, but each to their own. I went to see the first movie and kinda walked out thinking 'huh?'. Then again, I'm weird and like vampires (movies and novels) which most people don't understand *shrugs* Just a matter of personal preference I guess

The Harry Potter series is amazing. I can't wait for PoA.
Man, I love the people who read the first 20 pages and pass it off as "gay" because they have the attention span of a walnut.
Playboy, you're reading Harry Potter in your Literature class? Yikes. Why don't you give it a second shot and stop being so judgmental?
IAmTheWalrus
05-21-2004, 01:09 AM
Playboy, you're only proving more and more that you are a generalizing, judgemental, critical idiot.
I can think of many books off of the top of my head that have subpar first 20 pages. What disturbs me is that Harry Potter doesn't. When you don't know what to expect, you only realize that it's slow after you've finished the book or are on another book in the series.
There is a reason why the series is internationally acclaimed, and why it has rocketed J.K. Rowling from being poor and jotting her ideas on napkins to being one of the richest people in the world.
It sent a shockwave through fiction, and has been credited for getting kids and adults alike to start reading again.
You're a moron. You have no right at all to profess that you think Harry Potter is stupid because you read 20 pages of it.
And though Harry Potter holds much literary merit.. i've never heard of it being taught in a High School literature class. Wow, you never knew that people could walk on the moon from schooland you're reading Harry Potter in class?Sounds like you're getting a damned good education.
(Oh and, i know it could be seen that i'm being a hypocrite and have just judged your school and education, and that it very well is possible that you are just taking a break from the hard-hitting books and reading Harry Potter, but the accumulation of things you've said have created a picture in my mind about how awful your school really is.)

Anyone who read what they said can figure out what they're saying. It's not like the words don't go together. And i don't think you can " know what any of the words you just meant". I have trouble understanding your lower level of language. As Paperdoll said, go back to your gutter, ass.

Just because they're big to you doesn't mean they're big to everyone else. Pick up a thesaurus when you're out buying your big girl books.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion and as Dumbledore rightly says "It is our choices, that show what we really are..." (just to stick some philosophy in)
And I happen to love the books, for what they really are and what they have done in modern literature!! HARRY POTTER RULES!!! For me, it's the joy of reading them and going back, for I don't know the hundredth time to read them. The movies are brilliant as well. I could go on about them, but I cant describe the feeling I get.
Oh and to keep within topic, Gryffindor of course, although Ravenclaw would be okay I suppose.

I have to say that the Harry Potter books are an amazing read. I bought my first book in grade 7, read the first few pages and didn't think it was all that great. However, in grade 8 I decided I wasn't going to waste my money by buying it and never looking at it again, so I started to re-read it. I loved it. As soon as I was done I ran to the nearest bookstore, grabbed the second one off the shelf and read it while I waited in line to pay. Ever since then I've been hooked. I have to admit, when I read the 1st book a second time (after I finished the 3rd and 4th) it wasn't as great as I remembered it, probably due to the writing excellence of the 3rd and 4th.
Although, I find that the movies are not nearly in league with the books. They seem to give the illusion of a childishness. I think it's just the acting though (I'm not saying the actors suck or anything.. they just need more time to learn). However, I am waiting anxiously for the third movie to come out. Sirius and Lupin (my favourite characters :D) are introduced in it!
Oh.. and either Ravenclaw or Gryffindor.. Ravenclaw because the people are intellegent (book-wise).. and Gryfindor because they are brave.. not because Harry is in it as some of you may think
~*~Peace!~*~

To the people who think Harry Potter is stupid:
Hey, it is fine that you think it is stupid. We are all entitled to our opinion. But to call it gay(and then not spell witchcraft correctly) makes you pretty ignorant. Face it; do you think you could write a book as well written as HP? Do you think you could captivate the minds of millions of people across the globe with your story?
Until you do; I suggest you at least learn how to have some respect for it, if you don't like it.
Now, I love harry potter. And I always have. I've read each of the books 8 or 9 times(yeah, I'm a nerd..haha) and I love them. I would most likely want to be in Gryffindor because that's where Harry and Hermione and Ron are...but then again; if I was in Slytherin..I could get closer to that cutie Draco..ahaha. Yeah, I think Tom Felton is a hottie.
But yeah, Gryffindor most likely.

Exactly. It's a fun little read, but not what I'd call great or inspired literature. I just think it gets a bit too much praise. I've probably read many, many books that I found just as enjoyable and were over all better books than Harry Potter.
And yes, I bet I could write a better series than Harry Potter. :p

The Harry Potter books are awesome, when I first read it, maybe 5 years ago, it was extremely hard to put down. Even now it still captivates me. The movies, however, weren't bad but they definitely could've done better. The acting in the first film was deplorable, Dan Radcliffe was so wooden, but in the 2nd he loosened up a bit though. I hope the 3rd movie will be much better, it has a different director so we could expect something a bit different. The 3rd book was always my favourite. I can't wait till the 6th book comes out!

Hehe. Yes....in the first movie he looked like he was 10 ..but in reality he's older than I am...damn. He's like 17 now, right?
I like the new hair in the movie...not sleeked back. It's sexay. Lol.
But I agree with you, the movies leave a lot to be desired, and I hope the 3rd one kicks ass. Which reminds me...must..go..buy...midnight..school..premiere..t ickets.

What's the big deal with Harry Potter? It's cool if you wana read it, cool if you don't. Like I've never understood why people love LOTR because it's not my thing, but other people love it so I just let them be.
