If you could get one favorite book made into a movie what would it be and why?

For me that'd be The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches. I'm totally hooked on it, the characters rock, and it is way better than :kill: Harry Potter every day of the week.

Since "The Grapes of Wrath" has already been adapted into the silverscreen then i'll have to go with a more contemporary one.

Shanghai Baby by Wei Hui.

It's a chinese novel that has been translated into the english language by Bruce Humes. It's a novel about contemporary China, a China of midnight prostitutes and "silver lipsticked" teenagers. So basically, it's a China we rarely know about. But on a more indepth approach, it's also about one woman's journey and struggle between love and sex, whether to satiate the soul or better satisfy the body. So it's about feminism too, i guess, about woman dignity and courage to face the cold-hearted society she currently lives in.

I'll bet given the right funding and director and script, it'll make a great inspirational movie. You guys should check it out. I mean the book, not the movie. LOL...

No question for me, Farenheight 451. I know they made a movie of it in the 60's, but it was kind of lame. It's one of those movies that's dying to be remade. It's all about this "fireman" Guy Montage. Only it's in the future and firemen actually set fires. They're in charge of burning each and every book they come across to keep the people from getting new ideas. Most people are just pacified zombies, like Montage's wife who just stay home all day watching interactive soap operas on tv screens that take up entire walls in the house. Montage sees people dying to try and keep their books when the firemen come, and so he decides to see what the big deal is with them, so he starts collecting books and gets caught, becomes a fugitive...you get the idea. I bet Spielburg could pull it of with some Backdraft-esque pyro effects. It would be awesome.

Hmm. It's currently in development, but I can't WAIT for "The Golden Compass" to be adapted onto film. *Drools*

Also, I'd really like to see some of Victoria Holt's books made into movies.

No question for me it would be THE KINGDOMS AND THE ELVES OF THE REACHES. I know its 4 books and would probably have to be 4 movies but Id be there for every one. I bet Peter Jackson could make it seem so freakin real. It would be way awesome.

I think Peter Jackson would soooo be the right one to film the books. Could you imagine the Trios? Or King's Mate? Or the Vangar Forest chase scenes? Itd be the best.

Everybody seems to love Peter Jackson now that's done LOTR.

Go watch Braindead. An earlier Peter Jackson. Much more interesting.

I'll check it out! I read an interview about him that talked about his earlier movies but I don't have it anymore. Does anyone have a list or anything? They had to be good to get the LOTR gig.

I don't usually like movies based on books. But I'd still like Chuck Palahniuk's Survivor to be adapted. It was planned for awhile, but I really don't think we'll see it any time soon.

Until then I guess the upcoming Hellboy and A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius films will have to hold me over.

Intensity by Dean Koontz. Thing is, it WAS made into a movie, and a very good one.
